Need external dvd/cd drive for new Windows 10 laptop
WEBDec 2, 2015 · I just purchased a new Dell Inspiron laptop with Windows 10 OS. Doesn't come with an installed cd/dvd drive. All I can find are drives compatible with Windows 8 from manufacturers that I recognize. Can you suggest a name brand one that is compatible with Windows 10? Thanks for the help.

WEBJul 5, 2018 · I also seldom needed specific drivers since Win95 for basic CD and DVD support. There used to be issues with the different formats supported by DVD, i.e. DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW. Win3.x and earlier did cause problems as DOS drivers had to be installed and loaded at bootup so Win3.x could use it when it was loaded.

WEBJul 28, 2018 · Previous to the last 2 or 3 Win10 updates. The CD/DVD drive worked as expected with read, write and boot. It was possible to place a boot or recovery DVD disk in the drive and boot the machine. As this machine is presently, it is still possible to read/write to the CD drive. But the machine will not recognize a boot disk in the drive.
