How often to replace CO2 cartridge on inflatable life jacket?
WEBOct 5, 2023 · What is the technical term for the “pill”(pregnancy jokes aside ) that is the trigger mechanism for that style of inflatable life jacket? Halkey-Roberts (makers of the inflator mechanism) and Mustang Survival, both refer to it as simply the “bobbin”. The white material within the bobbin is the “pill”.

There are a few variances of the “approved only when worn” statement. The primary point is some life jackets must be worn to meet carriage so check the label.

From the Onyx sales info: What this is referring to is (going buy the old CG wording) that this will turn an unconscious person over. It performs like a type III but the CG rated it as a type V. (which must be worn to qualify as a PFD).

If you have a inflatable that requires you to pull the cord to inflate (ie falling in the water will not make it go off), it does not count as a life jacket in your boat if you aren’t wearing it.

WEBMay 17, 2021 · My son-in-law bought the Mustang MD2014 and I own an Onyx A/M/24. I find the Onyx very comfortable to wear. Have not worn the Mustang but comparing the two I do not see much difference. I do know the Mustang was more expensive but we are talking about saving a life so cost is relative.
