Not being sure of what to expect, we were pleasantly surprised. The interesting geology and the incredible colors was cause for many stops for pictures. Well worth the time to meander down the road Full review by williamdQ1843RP

My friend and I were headed to the Paria “ghost town” but we were never able to find it. That didn’t matter because the drive down the dirt road was gorgeous. We were there on a Saturday and only sa… Full review by Natsy42

I thought I’d highlight this area and it’s fantastic day use area Paria Beach located in Lee’s Ferry, AZ. You may not realize the beach area is the start of the Grand Canyon as noted by the beach s… Full review by H8443OUjamesc
Can you just drive in a little and look around? I see some notes about permits. We are all seniors and will do a short walk, hike, but not long. Staying in Orderville for 3 days and sounds like a nice sidetrip in conjunction with Pipe Springs NM. thanks, Bob from Florida

If you have 4-wheel drive, you can but if you only have a sedan, I wouldn't try it. Be mindful if you go and make sure rain isn't falling in another area...there are some low points that could fill with water, I think. If you do make it to the river area, it's quite nice. Another good place that's closer to you would be the Coral Sand Dunes State Park area.
Where exactly is the road off hiway 89? When I search for 'Paria River Canyon' on Google Maps, it shows me a road that is 40+ miles off hiway 89. Is that the right road, and it's just not necessary to go all the way to the end to see the colorful rocks? Or am I looking completely in the wrong area? Thanks!

Not to go to the Old Paria movie location site, where the colorful layers can be seen in all their glory. The dirt road is easily passable to normal vehicles unless there has been recent rain.
Would love to see the colorful rocks but I'm concerned about the unpaved road. How many miles is the unpaved road to the colorful rocks? How wide is this road-2-lane or 1-lane(I'm not crazy about heights) Doable in a minivan? Thanks.

We attempted the access road from US89. The road is dirt and severely rutted. Less than a mile we gave up. A mile or so to the east and on the opposite side of US89 there is a place to drive down and see beautiful painted canyons. The road is much better.
