Farm Bill will likely see another year-long extension as the deadline for new legislation rapidly approaches on Sept. 30.

The Senate passed an emergency spending bill Thursday to provide billions of dollars in funding for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), as officials warn that benefit payments for veterans are at risk of being disrupted next month absent congressional action.

VA officials had warned that without the money, some disability benefits payouts could have been disrupted in the next few weeks.

VA needed emergency funding by Friday to avoid delays in compensation and pension benefit payments that go to 7 million veterans and their survivors.

Senators on Wednesday grilled leaders from the Department of Veterans Affairs on why they were given just six weeks’ notice of a nearly $3 billion gap in the agency’s budget that potentially could prevent some veterans from receiving their benefits.
