Rain got the better of things when New Zealand hosted England in the first T20 on Saturday. Sam Curran had to bail England's batters out in the play we did have. The second T20 is this morning at the same ground, the idyllic Hagley Oval in Christchurch.

Saker has long been a coach that England have turned to. He was the fast-bowling coach from 2010 to 2015, and played a key role when England last won an away Ashes in 2010-11. More recently, he was brought back into the fold for their T20 World Cup victory in 2022 and for the Ashes and ODI World Cup in 2023.

Thomas Tuchel has guided England to the 2026 World Cup — but that might be the easy bit. Having negotiated a routine qualifying campaign with minimum fuss and booked a berth at next summer’s tournament with last night’s 5-0 win against Latvia, Tuchel’s focus will turn to the far more complicated task of choosing England’s 26-man squad.

New Zealand skipper Mitchell Santner has won the toss and put England into bat again. This was a tricky pitch the other night. Both teams are unchanged.
