Boeing is pausing hiring and taking sweeping steps to conserve cash after about 33,000 workers went on strike on Friday including considering temporary furloughs for many employees.

With a massive ongoing strike, Boeing is making some temporary cutbacks that could hit non-union staff hard. Boeing Chief Financial Officer Brian West on Monday announced the company is instituting a freeze on hiring and non-essential travel, and it will consider furloughs for employees, managers, and executives.

Boeing Co. said it’s instituting a range of cost-cutting measures as the planemaker prepares for a drawn-out and expensive strike by workers at its main hub near Seattle, including a hiring freeze and temporary furloughs “for many employees.”
