A U.S. District Court in California court ruled that 0.7 milligrams per liter of fluoride in drinking water poses an unreasonable risk to health.

It was the latest in a long list of public health recommendations from Ladapo criticized by associations that represent the people providing the care.

On Tuesday, the city of Stuart temporarily paused adding fluoride to their water. Officials tell WPTV they want to make access to fluoride a choice.

The city will be seeking a formal opinion from the state on its stance before deciding whether to remove fluoride from its drinking water permanently.

Florida's surgeon general, Dr. Joseph Ladapo, cited developmental concerns from higher levels of fluoride than are found in most U.S. water supplies.
