Meta, YouTube and other sites collected more data than most users realized, a new report by the Federal Trade Commission finds.

The FTC says media companies such as Meta, X and YouTube conduct “vast surveillance of consumers” to monetise their personal information.

Consumers do not understand how much privacy they are giving up, largely to facilitate targeted advertising, the Federal Trade Commission said in a report on the data practices of social media and video streaming companies.
