Muhammad Sinwar was born in Khan Younis in 1975. He is the younger brother of Yahya Sinwar, who masterminded the Hamas-led attacks on Israel that started the war in Gaza in October 2023 and in whose footsteps Muhammad Sinwar followed for much of his life.

Speculations are rife that Hamas may have chosen a new leader for Gaza, a day after Israel confirmed that it targeted Hamas leader Mohammed Sinwar, brother of slain Hamas former chief Yahya Sinwar. Israel has not yet confirmed whether Mohammed is dead, with the IDF stating his fate is unclear.

Muhammad Sinwar, one of the remaining top leaders of Hamas in Gaza, was reportedly targeted by Israel in a massive airstrike at a hospital in the southern Gaza Strip on Tuesday afternoon.
