As Mumbai’s assembly election results unfold, the battle intensifies between the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance and the Congress-led MVA. With predictions favoring Mahayuti, the stakes are high for both alliances as they vie for control in this crucial political landscape.

In the 2019 assembly elections, the Shiv Sena (undivided at the time) and BJP secured a majority of the seats in Mumbai. With the subsequent split, the Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray (UBT) faction now competes against the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, backed by the BJP.

Shiv Sena ruling alliance - Mahayuti - hit the majority mark of 145 after a flying start and is leading on over 220 seats in early trends. The MVA, meanwhile, is struggling to narrow down the gap and leading on around 55 seats.

Counting of votes for the Maharashtra Assembly elections 2024 began at 8 am, with the postal ballots being opened first. The BJP-NCP-Sena ruling alliance - Mahayuti - edged ahead in very early trends and was leading on around seven seats within minutes of counting.
