“Wet soils combined with the high winds could result in extensive tree damage,” the National Weather Service said. “The strong winds will usher in much colder air, with temperatures in the 20s and 30s and wind chills in the teens. Potential for power outages combined with the cold could exacerbate the impacts of this high wind event.”

The intensity of the storms was underscored as a gust of 69 mph was recorded at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. This has all left thousands without power. Georgia Power said in a statement early Sunday it had already restored power for tens of thousands of customers.

Channel 2 Action News has started getting in damage reports from the strong storms that moved across North Georgia early Sunday morning. In Roswell, a tree went through the ceiling of a home and also crashed on the deck in the back of the home.
