Georgian police have raided the offices of an opposition party and arrested its leader in an apparent attempt to squelch a wave of mass protests over the decision to suspend negotiations on joining the European Union.

TBILISI (Reuters) - A leader of one of Georgia's four main opposition parties was detained by police after being beaten unconscious in the capital Tbilisi, his party said on Wednesday. The Coalition for Change party published video on X showing an unmoving Nika Gvaramia being carried by the arms and legs by several men down a street.

Protests that have led to weeks of clashes with Mozambique's security forces need to continue for "maybe two to three months", the country's opposition leader has told the BBC.
