Footage from a camera operated by the U.S. Geological Survey shows a timelapse of just how fast New Mexico's Rio Ruidoso rose, causing flash flooding.

Three people, including two children, died after flash flooding swept through the village of Ruidoso, authorities said. The fatalities occurred as floodwaters surged through the area, driven by heavy monsoonal rains falling on burn scar terrain from last year’s South Fork and Salt fires.

Officials say monsoon rains in southern New Mexico triggered flash flooding that killed three people and was so intense an entire house was swept downstream in a mountain village that is a popular summer retreat.
