Authorities are making near daily communication with Borgwardt, though they don't know his exact location and he hasn't yet decided to return home.

Ryan Borgwardt, the husband and father of three who authorities said faked his death, is speaking to police but isn't revealing where he is, the sheriff said.

"The great news is that we know Ryan is alive and well," Sheriff Podoll said. "The bad news is that we do not know Ryan’s exact whereabouts, and he has not yet decided to return home."
