ARLINGTON, Va. − Some of the millions of Americans planning to run or walk those iconic turkey trots this Thanksgiving Day ahead of those big holiday meals should be bracing for bitter cold or otherwise foul conditions.

The Tough 10 and Fast 5 Turkey Trot is held a few days after Thanksgiving, with runners hitting the course on Sunday, Dec. 1, at Ghiloni Park. Medals will be given out to the first-, second- and third-place male and female finishers in both races.

Billed as the largest Thanksgiving Day race in the country, San Jose’s Applied Materials Silicon Valley Turkey Trot is set to celebrate its 20th year this Thursday.

The race starts at 8 a.m. There will be limited parking at M&F Corporate Center and Foster’s Market on Durham-Chapel Hill Boulevard, and limited shuttles will run on a loop starting at 7 a.m. to bring people to the start line.

As of Wednesday afternoon, nearly 6,000 neighbors were signed up for the Turkey Trot, one of Tallahassee's biggest Thanksgiving traditions.

The first Ames Turkey Trot 5k will take runners through some of the best parts of town on Thanksgiving, including downtown and Brookside Park. The inaugural event will start at 9 a.m. on Thursday, giving families plenty of time to rest up for their hearty holiday meals.

For 2024, it will partner with 22 different Thanksgiving Day turkey trots and half marathons held in 12 states around the country. Tens of thousands of runners are expected to participate, and that’s likely just a small fraction of those planning to run before they eat on Thursday.
