A partial lunar eclipse will darken around 96 per cent of the Moon on 28 August, with the event mainly visible across North and South America. Skywatchers elsewhere can catch the celestial spectacle through livestreams from observatories and astronomy platforms.

A deep partial lunar eclipse was visible across much of the Americas and parts of western Europe and western Africa on the night of August 27-28, NASA said.

While the eclipse was only partial, meaning only part of the moon was covered by Earth's shadow, it was called an "almost blood moon" because a whopping 96% of the moon was eclipsed.
