Washington state Gov. Bob Ferguson has signed a bill into law that sets limits on rent increases. Wednesday's bill signing makes the state among the first in the nation to provide protections for tenants.

The most contentious bill that Gov. Bob Ferguson signed into law was a state-level mandate to cap rent increases.

Senate Bill 5801 passed both the state Senate and House. It's now waiting to pass the legislature before it can be signed into law by the Governor. That's estimated to bring in $10 billion over six years. Part of that funding would help finish the North Spokane corridor on time.
