A Presidents Day protest drew more than 1,000 people to downtown Portland, in one of the city’s largest demonstrations to date of the second Trump era, leaving police briefly scrambling to contain the crowd as it grew during a march across the Morrison and Hawthorne bridges.

PORTLAND, Ore. — A group of protesters gathered at Portland City Hall on Monday. The demonstration is part of a national Presidents’ Day protest against recent federal layoffs, funding cuts, and other policies implemented by President Donald Trump's administration in the first few weeks of his second term.

Several of those in attendance wore masks to conceal their identities while holding signs calling out state lawmakers, Trump and Elon Musk.

Rallies and protests in Oakland and San Francisco mirrored other nationwide Presidents Day protests against the Trump administration, the mass deportations underway, and the moves by billionaire Elon Musk to gut federal agencies.

Portland will now join a coalition of local governments suing the Trump administration for executive orders and actions that harm sanctuary cities and states.

Hundreds again gathered at the Colorado State Capitol on Monday – this time on Presidents Day – in protest of the early moves by the second Donald Trump administration.
