The College Football Playoff will go to a more straightforward way of filling the bracket next season, announcing Thursday that it will place teams strictly on where they are ranked instead of moving pieces around to reward conference champions.

Under the new format, which was announced Thursday by the CFP’s management committee, the highest-ranked teams will have an advantage over conference champions.

Last season Arizona State was one of four teams getting a first-round bye in the College Football Playoff. It won't be that easy come next season.
