Murray Sinclair, a former First Nation judge, senator and chair of the commission that delved into Canada’s troubled history of residential schools for First Nations students, has died.

Murray Sinclair, the Anishinaabe former senator and judge who led Canada's landmark Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) into the country's residential schools has died at 73, his family said in a statement.

Former Canadian Anishinaabe judge and senator Murray Sinclair died early Monday morning in Winnipeg at the age of 73.
