Severe weather warnings have been issued for "large swathes" of Wales and many other parts of the UK this weekend ahead of the arrival of Storm Bert. Described as a "multi-hazard event", the storm will bring heavy rain, snow and strong winds from early Saturday and into Sunday.

Police are asking people to only drive if necessary as Storm Bert hits the South West. The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for strong winds and heavy rain for Devon and Cornwall until Sunday evening.

The Met Office has issued snow, ice, wind and rain warnings across the UK and said the low pressure system would be a 'multi-hazard event' following a cold snap. An amber alert for heavy snow and ice will be in force on Saturday from 7am until 5pm.
