The USS Beloit, which went into official service for the U.S. Navy on Nov. 23 in Milwaukee, has a new commander.
The USS Beloit is the newest warship of the U.S. Navy, and it’s sitting in Milwaukee, at 378-feet long in Veterans Park. "It’s great, it's beautiful, it’s history," said Linda Gilbert of Beloit.
The USS Beloit, a littoral combat ship (LCS), is roughly 380 feet long and will house 88 crew members. Ships of this kind are made up in Marinette, Wisconsin. They cost roughly $500 million to build.
