There's only one way the San Francisco Giants will begin to consistently attract the biggest free agents on the market.

For the first time in nearly two decades as a major league pitcher, Justin Verlander didn't take an offseason break from throwing.

During a virtual press event on Monday, January 13, an NBC Sports reporter named Taylor Wirth had a hot mic moment that involved Verlander, 41 — but the MLB player didn’t mind.

“I’m still putting a lot of thought into this,” Verlander said.

Verlander was way better than his numbers with the Astros in 2024, and there's almost no such thing as a risky one-year deal. Look for him to pad his Hall of Fame resume.

The right-hander, who signed with the Giants in free agency, and president of baseball operations Buster Posey were speaking with reporters via Zoom when one media member forgot to mute his mic and began commenting on the fact that Verlander appeared to be using the Zoom account of his wife, Kate Upton.
