I hope that is not the fate of Twinless, a singular, beguiling film. Writer-director James Sweeney, who also co-stars, does trade in some of the stereotypical quirk and tic of Park City ephemera. But he deftly stitches those fabrics into something new,

“Twinless” begins innocently enough, but soon transforms into something much darker and more psychologically sinister. Sweeney’s unpredictable movie twists and writhes, while never losing sight of its layered characters’ heartfelt longing. Still, don’t go for feel-good. Go for feel-shocked. Definitely go for feel-complicated.

Amid a number of thin, depressing movies at this year’s edition of the Utah festival, a pair of funny, big-hearted films stood out, alongside the typical contingent of thoughtful character studies and powerful documentaries.
