Bill Murray explains why he "wept" during the "SNL50" anniversary special and how seeing late co-stars Gilda Radner and John Belushi hit him so hard.

John Belushi, seen here on "Saturday Night Live" on Nov. 4, 1978, was a big influence on a lot of young comedians, says Murray. “John was a guy who really made a lot of careers possible,” he said.

Bill Murray said that the 'SNL50: The Anniversary Special' in February made him "surprisingly emotional" as a former cast member. He even shared how he "wept" throughout the show.

Murray said he later cried again when the anniversary special paid tribute to John Belushi ’s “ Don’t Look Back in Anger ” sketch, also from 1978.

I was sitting there in a dressing room with a bunch of people, and I couldn’t stop it.” Still reminiscing with Sway, Murray also touched on his late comedy peer John Belushi who died in 1982.

“There’s the film that Tom Schiller made with Belushi visiting the ‘ Saturday Night Live ‘ graveyard and seeing all his compatriots dead. Meanwhile, John’s the first to go,” Murray said.
