In total, from July to October, the team caught 136 flathead catfish, with a total weight of 1,700 pounds. The otoliths of each fish were removed to get an accurate age and rate of growth.

Steve Green prefers his big flathead and channel catfish on the surface, too. “It’s all about when they hear that bait splashing on the surface,” said Green, of Spring Hill.
