A fire that burned for four days after a pipeline explosion in the Houston suburbs burned out Thursday after the once-towering blaze put hundreds of nearby homes under evacuation orders. Investigators say the fire began after the driver of an SUV went through a fence alongside a Walmart parking lot and struck an above-ground valve.

With the fire substantially smaller since it began on Monday, police were able to access the area around the pipeline in Deer Park.

The white SUV drove through a fence on the west side of the Walmart parking lot and struck an above-ground pipeline valve around 10 a.m. Monday. A fire erupted and residual product from the isolated pipeline has continued to burn off.
