Michigan State basketball will be without one of its top players in Wednesday night's Maui Invitational matchup against North Carolina. The Spartans have ruled freshman guard Jase Richardson out for the third-place game against the Tar Heels.

Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo met with the media on Thursday and stated that Richardson was limited in practice but is expected to be ready to play when the Spartans play Colorado on Monday in the Maui Invitational. Richardson left Tuesday night’s win over Samford late in the game with an ankle injury.

Michigan State basketball has had plenty of alpha-dog players in its history. Just think Magic Johnson, Mateen Cleaves, Cassius Winston, Steve Smith. Some would say Jason Richardson was an alpha-type player in his day.
