European Space Agency picks Thales Alenia Space to build lunar lander

Argonaut is one of ESA's contributions to international lunar programs, including NASA's Artemis program and the agency's Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS). According to ESA, the lander will contribute "to establishing a permanent and sustainable human presence on the Moon."

Thales Alenia Space to Help European Space Agency Deliver Cargo to Moon in $898 Million Deal

Thales Alenia Space signed a contract valued at 862 million euros ($898.4 million) with the European Space Agency to develop a lander to ship cargo to the Moon. The aerospace company--a joint venture between French group Thales and Italy's Leonardo--said Thursday that as part of the deal it would build the Lunar Descent Element for ESA's Argonaut Mission.
