MILWAUKEE — Microsoft bought 240 acres of land from Kenosha with goals for future data center development.

Microsoft has acquired 240 acres in the City of Kenosha for a data center, city officials said Monday. Few details were made public, but the project would be in addition to the $3.3 billion center the company has under construction in Mount Pleasant in Racine County.

Microsoft Corp. has been identified as the company planning a data center in Kenosha. The company plans to build 1 million square feet in data center space but hasn't submitted plans to the city.

Microsoft has purchased another 240 acres of land in Wisconsin for data center projects. The city this week confirmed the sale of land northwest of Interstate 94 and Highway 142 to Microsoft. The land in question is nearby to Microsoft's existing Mount Pleasant project, construction on which was " paused " at the start of this year.

Microsoft continues to grow its footprint in southeast Wisconsin with the recent purchase of 240 acres of land in Kenosha for a new data center project.
