SUNRISE, Fla. -- Carter Verhaeghe had a goal and two assists, and the Florida Panthers ended a four-game losing streak with a 5-1 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Amerant Bank Arena on Wednesday.

Aleksander Barkov and Carter Verhaeghe had power-play goals, Sam Reinhart had a short-handed score and the Florida Panthers beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-1 on Wednesday night for only their second win in eight games.

Bobby McMann left Toronto's bench late in the second period and didn't come out for the third against the Florida Panthers. The Maple Leafs announced that the 28-year-old wouldn't return due to a lower-body injury.

With the Maple Leafs coming to town, there will also be three familiar faces in the building as Steven Lorentz, Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Anthony Stolarz take the ice at Amerant Bank Arena for the first time since helping the Panthers capture the Stanley Cup back in June.

Defeating the defending Stanley Cup Champions won't be easy, which is why Maple Leafs fans are hoping that Matthews will be healthy enough to face the Panthers. The Toronto captain has been sidelined with an upper-body injury since Nov. 3, however, Tuesday's return to practice sparked optimism regarding his outlook.
