Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R) signed a bill Wednesday that requires transgender students from kindergarten through college to use a bathroom that corresponds to their sex assigned at birth, although it has no enforcement mechanism.

The new law will require K-12 and college students to use bathrooms and locker rooms that match their sex assigned at birth.

Gov. Mike DeWine signed the law out of public view Tuesday over the objections of Democrats, teachers' unions and civil rights groups.
