The St. Louis Blues wasted no time in hoping on free agent coach Jim Montgomery after he was fired by the Boston Bruins. Not only did the Blues hire Mongtomery within a week of his firing, but they also signed him to a five-year contract to be their head coach.

Jim Montgomery is overjoyed to be back with the St. Louis Blues as their head coach. Montgomery joined the team in New York in the middle of its brief road trip.

In Boston, Montgomery replaced Bruce Cassidy — another likeable Bruins coach whose teams racked up 100-point seasons but flamed out in the postseason. Cassidy was fired three years after leading Boston to the 2019 Stanley Cup Final and hired by Vegas eight days after the Bruins fired him.
