A number of Bank of Scotland branches are to close across Scotland after Lloyds Banking Group announced it is shutting 136 more branches on the high street. It will close 61 Lloyds, 61 Halifax and 14 Bank of Scotland branches between May this year and March 2026.

Closures are set to take place between May this year and March 2026, with Lloyds blaming the decision on customers shifting away from banking in person to using mobile services.

It will close 61 Lloyds, 61 Halifax and 14 Bank of Scotland branches between May this year and March 2026. The closure plan comes weeks after Lloyds shook up its branch business to allow customers of Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland to use stores across any of its brands for in-person banking.

Once the closure plan is completed, Lloyds will have 386 branches, Halifax 281 branches, and Bank of Scotland 90 branches. Lloyds attributed the branch closures to customers increasingly opting for mobile banking over in-person services.

The NatWest Group includes NatWest, Royal Bank of Scotland and Ulster Bank, and it’s just announced another wave of closures. A total of 53 more NatWest branches will shut across the country, in addition to one which was previously announced. They’ll all close before June 2025.
