Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon says he was “quite close” to joining Chelsea in 2022, when the recently appointed England boss Thomas Tuchel was in charge.

Anthony Gordon has revealed how incoming England manager Thomas Tuchel tried to persuade him to sign for Chelsea and “made me really want to play for him” during a post-game chat while he was still an Everton player.

The Newcastle star was a target for the Blues during Tuchel’s reign at Stamford Bridge before staying with Everton until January 2023 when he moves to St James' Park

Anthony Gordon has talked about Chelsea failing to buy him. Thomas Tuchel tried to do so in summer 2022. Newcastle the winners when they paid £45m for Gordon in January 2023. Chelsea knocked back by Everton when having bid £60m months earlier.
