Over 1,000 people gathered and waited hours to see the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train pass by Carbon Athletic Club in Detroit on Monday.

The holiday train appeared in Detroit at about 10, and in Belleville at about midnight, too late for most young schoolchildren. Still, the brightly-lit, 14-car train is an annual food bank fundraiser.

The Holiday Train started Nov. 21 and runs through Dec. 20. It aims to raise money, food and awareness for people struggling with food insecurity, according to Canadian Pacific's website.
