The Federal Aviation Administration is holding a two-day meeting with major airlines on Wednesday to discuss its proposal to cut flights at Newark Liberty International Airport in order to address major delays.

The Federal Aviation Administration said Friday it plans to announce proposed temporary cuts to flights at Newark after meetings with major U.S. airlines to address congestion impacts. The FAA plans to make a final determination on arrival rates on or after May 28.

United's CEO blamed the Newark flight cancellations on government equipment failures coupled with air traffic controllers walking off the job.
