Knoxville Area Transit celebrates Rosa Parks Day
December 1, 1955 is the day when Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a bus in Montgomery Alabama to a man, in defiance of Jim Crow segregation laws. On Sunday, Knoxville Area Transit honored Parks by reserving a seat for her on each bus with a sign discussing her impact along with a bow.
KAT reserves seats in honor of Rosa Parks Day
On December 1, 1955, in Montgomery Alabama, Rosa Parks, was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white person, in defiance of Jim Crow segregation laws. This event helped spark the Montgomery bus boycott and the civil rights movement which would revolutionize rights for Black Americans.
