Liberated Brands filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy over the weekend and is looking to shutter its U.S. retail stores where it sold brands like Quiksilver, Billabong and Volcom.

Liberated Brands, which has operated stores for surfer and skater-inspired labels like Quiksilver, Billabong and Volcom, filed for bankruptcy this week — and plans to shutter its locations across the U.

Liberated Brands, the parent company of several sport, outdoor and lifestyle apparel retailers, has initiated Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, according to court documents filed in Delaware. Liberated Brands’ portfolio of retailers includes Volcom,

Liberated Brands, which until recently operated skateboard and surfing-inspired retail brands including Quiksilver, Billabong and Volcom, has filed bankruptcy as more customers choose “fast fashion” competitors.

Liberated Brands filed for bankruptcy in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court earlier this week. Closing sales at all 122 stores have begun.

According to The Los Angeles Times, California-based parent company Liberated Brands filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and will shut down 124 stores across the country. As Quiksilver and Billabong are both Australian brands, they will continue to operate stores outside the United States.

A popular fashion company known for surf brands has filed for bankruptcy. Yahoo Finance reports Liberated Brands, which operated Billabong, Roxy, Quiksilver, and Volcom, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Delaware. Liberated said it would close 120 stores in the U.S. and Canada, firing more than 1,400 people from their jobs.

Liberty Brands filed for Chapter 11, but the individual brands will live on because they have been sold to other retailers.

The surfer and skateboard-inspired brands were a hit with Millennials in the 90s and early 2000s, but have struggled for years to stay competitive with fast-fashion clothing companies. Liberated says numerous factors played a role in the decision to close the retail stores.
