Martin will depart next spring, after ten years at the helm, with an insider telling the Sun newspaper: “The figures don’t lie."

Fiona Phillips has been supported by her husband, This Morning editor Martin Frizell, since she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's last year.

Martin has seen the show some difficult periods in recent years, most notably Phillip Schofield's abrupt exit.

Following the shock news, presenter Hammond has said she is "devastated" in an interview on Chris Evans' Virgin Radio show. "I’ve worked with Martin for 10 years. I’ll be honest with you I’m absolutely devastated. He’s been a real rock for the show. But it's totally understandable why he's leaving," she said.
