The North Carolina Supreme Court race is headed to a recount after incumbent Justice Allison Riggs, a Democrat, pulled ahead of her challenger, Republican Jefferson Griffin, by 625 votes after outstanding ballots were counted.

With all counties reporting, incumbent Supreme Court Justice Allison Riggs, a Democrat, is leading Republican Appeals Court Judge Jefferson Griffin by 623 votes out of about 5.5 million cast in the race for a Supreme Court seat.

The race for a seat on the state Supreme Court is incredibly tight. Democratic incumbent Allison Riggs has a 24-vote lead as of Saturday morning. That's out of more than 5.5 million ballots cast.
