American travelers can now keep shoes on during airport security as millimeter wave technology effectively detects threats that older systems couldn't identify.
As of Tuesday, passengers at U.S. airports are no longer required to remove their shoes during the TSA screening process.
“TSA and DHS are always exploring new and innovative ways to enhance the passenger experience and our strong security posture,” a TSA spokesman told reporters in response to questions about the new shoe policy, which sources originally indicated would be rolled out in phases across the country but instead took immediate effect nationwide.
Now, by closing the curtain on the shoe requirements, Noem has indulged in a rival form of spectacle: populism theater.
