The Yankees’ rotation is absorbing another significant blow with the news that right-hander Clarke Schmidt appears likely to undergo Tommy John surgery, manager Aaron Boone said before Saturday’s Subway Series game against the Mets at Citi Field.

One day after he was placed on the injured list with forearm tightness, it was determined that New York Yankees right-hander Clarke Schmidt likely will undergo Tommy John surgery. Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters Saturday afternoon that Schmidt has a tear in the ulnar collateral ligament of his right elbow.

Prior to his diagnosis of a UCL tear, Clarke Schmidt had already joined fellow Yankees' starters Gerrit Cole, Luis Gil and Ryan Yarbrough on the injured list.
