Apr 7, 2008 · Converting a 4wd 4L60E to 2wd. I have a 5.3 4L60E 4wd combo that im pulling out of an 05 GMC yukon, (I assume it's a 4L60E corrrect me if im wrong). Im going to put the engine and trans in my 2WD S10 but I need to get rid of the 4wd and T-case. I have an old 4L60E out of my dads 96 GMC Sonoma thats setup for 2WD but it has burnt up clutches.

what's the difference between a 2wd and 4wd transmission?

Your obviously going to have to use your driveshaft, and your going to have to swap out the tailshaft from your transmission over to the nv3500 in order for it to work with your transfer case.

The 1998 up 4L60E transmissions used a Graphite lock-up converter and the lock-upp mechanism NEVER fully locks it is controlled slippage usually about 60 to 100rpm's min. The 1996-1997 used a carbon lock-up that is designed to slip then lock.

98-04 will fit, if it's from another S10. 2wd and 4wd do not interchange w/o completely disassembling the trans. There a very few full size that will interchange. Any 98 (98 ONLY) light duty full size truck. Nothing 99 up. Astro vans and full size vans thru 02 will work if they have the 4L60E. Look for M30 in the glove box.
