After a 2022 spike in officer-involved shootings, Mesa’s Police Department approached ASU’s Watts College where a team of researchers put together a report that dissected each incident.

Kendal Blust. , July 7, 2023. Last month, 31-year-old UC, Berkeley Ph.D. student Gabriel Trujillo was killed in rural Sonora while carrying out field research on a common shrub called buttonbush. His murder is a reminder of the dangers researchers sometimes take to understand and conserve plants and animals in this region, and around the world.
