What is UNIFIL’s role? UNIFIL, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, is a peacekeeping mission in south Lebanon. It was established by the Security Council in 1978 with Resolutions 425 and 426 after Israel invaded Lebanon.

UNIFIL patrolled the area and, together with the Lebanese authorities, provided humanitarian assistance by supplying water, medical treatment and food to needy families. UNIFIL also assisted former members of the de facto forces and their families who decided to return from Israel to Lebanon.

UNIFIL has around 10,500 peacekeepers coming from 50 troop contributing countries. The Mission maintains an intensive level of operational and other activities amounting to approximately 14,500 activities per month, day and night, in the area of operations.

He served three times with UNIFIL, as Sector East Liaison Officer at UNIFIL HQ in 2011, as Chief of Staff of Sector East in 2013 and, as Commander of Sector East in 2016. His military education includes the Armored Units Command course, the Airborne/Paratroopers Units Command course and the Spanish Army and Joint Staff course.
