While it's physically compatible with the 5th Gen M1 iPad Pro 12.9", there's a slight thickness difference in the 5th Gen iPad, which means the fit isn't 100% perfect. It'll close, but not as seamlessly as you'd hope.

A9 + 2 GB RAM in iPad 5th gen is showing its age, but is still pretty usable. A10 + 3 GB RAM in iPad 7th gen is very good. Very occasional short pauses can be noticed but it’s very decent overall.

Nov 28, 2023 · Same boat here. I have a 6th gen iPad for the same stuff and it's showing its age and considered both the 10th generation iPad and the 5th generation Air. I opted for the 10th gen because after factoring in the sale price and trade-in, it's only going to cost $250. I have my MBP for heavy lifting, which is why I opted for the base iPad model.

I recall seeing some tests and it was the usual: an iPad Air 5 used at full brightness with heavy usage gives the same-old 3-4 hours. This happened with early 32-bit iPads, this happened with early iPad Pros, and this still happens today.
